Memories for Keepsake, Photography by Nicole Williams

When “the baby” isn’t the baby anymore….

I can remember it just like yesterday.  I sat on a swing staring at the beach with Evan in my arms and tears rolling down my cheeks.  I’m not sure why it bothered me so much that time, but it did.  Maybe because there was a time where he was supposed to be the last.  Maybe it was because Ellasyn was a planned delivery and I had time to reflect on the changes he’d soon experience. He was my squishiest baby with the sweetest little old soul.  He laid his tiny little head on my chest, twirling my hair like he knew something was different.  This night was our last night together as mommy and “the baby”.  I stroked his hair and held him tight as if we did something wrong by adding another baby to the family.  I felt so guilty, and although I was so excited to meet our  {much anticipated} little girl the next day, I also knew that his world would change.  Turns out, he was THE best big brother ever {still is} and he was just fine.  Yet, somehow the last night holding “the baby” before they aren’t the baby anymore is one of the most bittersweet moments life has to offer.  When I looked at the pictures from this session, THIS image brought immediate tears.  It just said so much.  As luck would have it, it was her last night as “the baby”.

A sibling relationship is like no other 🙂
